Pharmacies

There are a number of pharmacies in San Juan del Sur that sell a wide variety of medications, first aid products, and toiletries. Most medicines are available without a prescription.

Mercado

The San Juan del Sur market is located in the center of town. It opens early in the day and closes around 4pm. It is closed on Sundays. In the market, you will find a variety of stalls selling local fruit, vegetables, meat, and prepared food. There are also a number of vendors that sell clothing, shoes, and household necessities.

Pulperias

A number of small stores in town, called pulperias, sell basic groceries, snacks, beverages, cleaning supplies, toiletries, rum, and wine. Two of the best stocked are "Sanchez's Pulperia" and "Calderon Pulperia," to which any local can give you directions.

Pali Supermarket

Pali, part of a major supermarket chain in Central America, offers a modern grocery shopping experience. The Pali is open daily until 7 p.m.

Internet

There are numerous internet cafes open across town. In addition, many local restaurants, including Bambu Beach Club and Big Wave Daveʼs offer free wi-fi.

Post office

Located on the beach front road, towards the port, on the south side of the bay of, inside the “Enitel” building. You can send international mail and purchase stamps here. Hours can be unpredictable, but if the window is open, someone is usually available to help.

Laundry

There are a number of same-day laundry services available in town. Price is typically based on number of items. We recommend Prado Laundry Service - across from Jerryʼs Pizza.

DVD Rentals

Ocean Rentals, located across the street from Hotel Colonial, offers a variety of English language movies for rent.

Gas

There is a Texaco Station located at the entrance to town. They sell both gas and diesel. Be certain to check what type of fuel your car requires before pumping!

Money

Nicaraguaʼs official currency is the Cordoba, although US Dollars are widely accepted. There are four ATM machines and three banks in San Juan del Sur, where you can withdraw either Cordobas or US Dollars. There is also a Western Union for sending and receiving wire transfers. Travelers Checks are not advisable as they are difficult and expensive to spend in Nicaragua.
